Realtor vs. Real Estate Agent - Does It Matter?
April 17, 2018 | Katie Shoultz
ST PETERSBURG—Buying or selling a home is a big transaction, and you want to hire someone you trust to guide you through the process. As a team of Realtors (no, not just real estate agents), every agent on the Saltwater Ventures Team has completed additional training and pledged to uphold the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics. Approximately one half of all real estate agents in the nation hold this qualification, and it can make a big difference in the way your transaction plays out.

The NAR Code of Ethics requires Realtors to “pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client,” and place honesty and fairness above all else. No amount of profit shall sway a Realtor to deviate from this pledge to place their client first and treat all others fairly, nor shall a Realtor ever intentionally mislead or withhold information from any party in a transaction, including the other agent and his/her clients.

According to the Code of Ethics, “The term Realtor® has come to connote competency, fairness, and high integrity resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of moral conduct in business relations. No inducement of profit and no instruction from clients ever can justify departure from this ideal.”

Not only do Realtors take an initial course on the NAR Code of Ethics, but re-training is required every four years to ensure compliance and up to date information regarding current real estate law and practices. In such an important transaction, who would you want to represent you? Call or text us today to learn more or set up a consultation!
